Athlete of the Month: Cody C.
Cody Comptom has been with us for about 2 years! Since then, he's maintained his commitment to the process, getting stronger, faster, and fitter. It has been fun to see him surprise himself quite often. He lays low, but is known to crush some bodyweight movements. He's been working on his gainz in the USAW Club, and has already seen 2 PRs. He's an amazing supporter, showing up to many competitions and events. He even made it to Regionals to cheer on Team NoCoast, so we consider him a die hard, and are grateful he's made this community his gym home. We are glad to give him an opportunity to be in the spotlight and share more about himself.
Age/Weight:
25, 150lbs How long have you been CrossFitting?
A little over three and a half years Athletic/Sports history/highlights:
I've played a bit of everything growing up from hockey to basketball but got eventually serious with tennis in high school and was given the opportunity to play in college. I also walked on to the cross-country team and have volleyball experience.
How did you get into CrossFit? One of my best friends Veronika picked it up and asked if I wanted to give it a try, been hooked ever since. What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? Anything with a squat clean What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? One of the hardest WOD's I've ever done was "Death By" burpee box jumps and least favorite movement would have to be wall balls What is your most memorable CrossFit moment? Normally this would be a personal achievement but it has to be going to the CrossFit Games in 2014 and watching the best CrossFit teams and individuals in the world compete. Hard to beat seeing Rich Froning's last win as an individual in person. How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery?
Nutrition plays a pretty important role, I'm fairly strict paleo during the week and I can definitely feel a difference in performance and recovery if I cheat.
You have been doing the USAW Club for the last couple months. What benefits have you seen from that class?
The USAW club has been a great opportunity for me to get stronger and more proficient with my Olympic lifts. I have PR'd twice so far and have seen an improvement in my overall CrossFit performance.
How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness? CrossFit has greatly improved my wellness not only physically but mentally/socially as well. I have met some great people through CrossFit and especially at NoCoast. It's a great feeling heading to the gym after a long day of work, getting beat up by a WOD and receiving so much support along the way. Advice to new people:
Don't be intimidated! Whether that is from a movement in a workout or some badasses at the gym, everyone was new to CrossFit at one point. Just keep showing up!
