Congratulations, Marisa! You're our October Athlete of the Month!!!

Marisa has been training with us at NoCoast for almost a year now and she has certainly left a mark on our community. Her hard work on the Oly platforms has lead to some Weightlifting success, bringing home the gold at the Spring Front Range meet. We are also pleased to announce that Marisa's kindness and sincerity has not gone unnoticed, starting this month, she will be joining our NoCoast coaching staff! We are excited to have Marisa as a leader within our community and we can't wait to see what the next year of training, coaching, and friendships brings to her.

Quotes from Marisa:

"Nutrition has always been a struggle for me, mostly because I haven’t put the effort into it. This year I have made an effort and I have noticed huge gains both physically and mentally. I have energy to actually perform the way I want to. I used to eat out all the time and not watch what I was putting into my body. Understanding how my body reacts to different foods has been key to my overall fitness".

"Be patient and kind to yourself, Improving your health and fitness is a continuous process that takes time and commitment. Get involved in the community, that is the easiest way to stay accountable and keep motivated to accomplish your goals!"

Age/Weight: 24, 130lb

Athletic/Sports history/highlights: I grew up training judo for about 8 years and earned a brown belt, crossed into BJJ for a couple years before finding crossfit.

How long have you been CrossFitting? I have been doing crossfit for 6 years now.

How did you get into CrossFit? My first exposure was at a UFC expo in Houston where they were hosting a big CrossFit competition as well. From there my brother was looking to get fit for the army so he decided to join the local CrossFit gym (25 miles away) and I just followed him. :)

What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? Surprise: power cleans are my favorite movement, favorite WOD would have to be Grace.

What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? Anything long endurance is tough for me. Running would have to be my least favorite activity.

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment? Telling my brother that I got my first strict pull-up. I had been working on that for years and never ever thought I’d be able to get even 1.

How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery? Nutrition has always been a struggle for me, mostly because I haven’t put the effort into it. This year I have made an effort and I have noticed huge gains both physically and mentally. I have energy to actually perform the way I want to. I used to eat out all the time and not watch what I was putting into my body. Understanding how my body reacts to different foods has been key to my overall fitness.

How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness? It has been a great outlet to set and accomplish goals inside and outside of the gym by giving me the confidence to try new activities and challenge myself.

How has CrossFit changed your family/relationships? Well, I met my boyfriend, Ben, at our old box over 4 years ago now. So I’d say it’s improved my relationships greatly :) The number one aspect I love about Crossfit is the community and how easy it is to make friends.

Advice to new people: Be patient and kind to yourself, Improving your health and fitness is a continuous process that takes time and commitment. Get involved in the community, that is the easiest way to stay accountable and keep motivated to accomplish your goals!
