January Athlete of the Month: Lindsay Gorske

Congratulations Lindsay, you are the NoCoast Athlete of the Month!

Lindsay is the life of the party… or at the gym, the life of every class she attends!! She, of course, comes for the workouts as well, but thoroughly enjoys the social aspect of our community. If you’ve been in class with her, you most likely have enjoyed her light hearted nature. Lindsay brings so much love and light to our community; she has a way of making everyone feel appreciated, included, and welcome and we cannot express how much of a difference that makes in a place that can initially feel very intimidating to newcomers.

Lindsay has been a dedicated member for almost 7 years and her smile has never faded. We often joke about how much she “pushes”, but in all reality she comes in consistently, works hard, is fully present when she is here and pours her heart into each class and each individual she encounters. We love you, Lindsay, and are very grateful for all you bring to us individually and our community as a whole!

And, now, as the current AOTM, we expect a little increased intensity this month ;)

Quotes from Lindsay:

“It also continues to keep me balanced with my crazy busy life. It is a way to keep me grounded and helps my mental health. It's how I can keep on keeping on. Plus I love the people!”

“I am raising 3 girls that are all very active in sports and are in a time in their lives where taking care of their bodies is important. As their mom, I want to be that role model for them. I think it's important to show them that I value my fitness, and health, and part of all of that is taking care of my mind and body. My girls know and understand that part of life and mental health is finding a place and physical activity that will continue to keep them balanced and healthy.”

“The lovely thing about CrossFit is that you are in control and you will see personal growth as you stay consistent. Over time you will see yourself doing more weight, getting faster, making new friends, and start seeing a change in your body composition. So just remember that everyone was once a new person. Take a few deep breaths and keep showing up!”

Age/Weight:

43 years old have no clue what I weigh! I don't own a scale and my weight has always been based on how I feel in my clothes.

Athletic/Sports history/highlights:

I have Been active my entire life. I’ve always valued health and wellness and taking care of myself. I grew up as a dancer and most of my training was as a ballerina, which may not surprise the people who know me. However, what may surprise most people is I did Figure fitness shows throughout College and got my degree in Exercise Science and Kinesiology. I later went to massage school and then spent 10 years as a massage therapist.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

For 10+ years.

How did you get into CrossFit?

I was Looking for something to gain lean muscle mass, and my mommy and me fitness classes were not cutting it for me. I love to lift weights but that was always done solo in a gym and I like to be around people. It gives me energy. I took My first class and was hooked. Someone once told me if I join CrossFit that my legs wouldn’t fit into a pair of jeans again. I was 100% ok with that!

What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?

Any movement that involves working my booty and hamstrings!

What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?

Overhead squats!

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment?

I can not give you a specific moment. All I know is that everyone is kind and encouraging and will always cheer you on.

How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery?

It's important to me to take my supplements, and get enough water, fruits and veggies, and protein each day.

How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness?

My goal was to create more muscle mass and over the years that's just what Crossfit has done. More muscle mass burns more calories. It also continues to keep me balanced with my crazy busy life. It is a way to keep me grounded and helps my mental health. It's how I can keep on keeping on. Plus I love the people!

How has CrossFit changed your family?

I am raising 3 girls that are all very active in sports and are in a time in their lives where taking care of their bodies is important. As their mom, I want to be that role model for them. I think it's important to show them that I value my fitness, and health, and part of all of that is taking care of my mind and body. My girls know and understand that part of life and mental health is finding a place and physical activity that will continue to keep them balanced and healthy.

Advice to new people:

YES! You took the first step and walked through the door. It will seem very intimidating your first week and all you need to know is this... we all work at different speeds and levels. The lovely thing about CrossFit is that you are in control and you will see personal growth as you stay consistent. Over time you will see yourself doing more weight, getting faster, making new friends, and start seeing a change in your body composition. So just remember that everyone was once a new person. Take a few deep breaths and keep showing up!
